If you are frustrated with current sales growth check out this free marketing video. The steps shown in the video work for all for-profit businesses whether you are a manufacturer, retailer, professional, service business, restaurant owner, or any other for-profit company.

The video is import to view because when it comes to marketing it seems most decision makers are ego-driven. They make decisions based on feelings, gut instinct, a narrow focus of their industry, or just plain arrogance.

There are two basic reasons companies take an ego driven approach to marketing.

The first is they don’t know any better. They’ve been lied to by ad agents selling ads by the line, fractional inch, or dot while the agents mislabel their cash-grabbing scams as “marketing”.

It only takes getting burned once or twice before people become painfully sensitive to listening to anything remotely attached to the “marketing” word.

So instead of repeating these costly experiences, business owners try to wing their marketing while they hope and pray things turn out well. It rarely does. The majority of companies fail. That’s a sad fact of life. But it doesn’t have to be.

The second reason business owners might take an ego-driven approach is because the decision makers are honestly truly arrogant. They mistakenly assume their years of exposure to their industry qualifies them to know everything there is to know about marketing their businesses. In turn they fail to look any further than their own noses for marketing ideas that work. To them, the world resembles The Matrix and they have the power to shape “reality” around themselves at will.

Wrong.

We can blindly go through life feeling, thinking, and believing whatever we want to believe. But that doesn’t mean the rest of the world is going to bend over backwards for us. Life isn’t The Matrix. The real world doesn’t revolve around our egos. We can’t control everyone else on the planet simply because of the electrical impulses firing off in that little clump of grey matter between our ears. Our egos don’t control the thoughts, feelings, or beliefs of the rest of the planet any more so than we can control the rotation of the earth itself.

Businesses that take such a self-centered approach to growing and stubbornly claim otherwise die.

Sure, in the old days of marketing there were few product choices. Ego marketing seemed to work. But only because there were few choices. Back then buyers had to face ‘take it or do without’ attitudes from sellers. But today, buyers have plenty of choices. And buyers are much more informed.

This video shows how to take a knowledge-driven approach to growing sales, increase referrals, and bring in new business in this era of informed buyers.

The video isn’t about ‘branding’ or gaining ‘top of mind awareness’ or any other such nonsense.

Brand advertising is only appropriate for manufacturers and companies that sell or license through distributors, affiliates, retailers, or merchandisers. Major corporations like Disney, Nike, Coca Cola run ‘brand’ ads to gain attention for their products through repetition. They are not trying to make a direct sell. Billions of ad dollars are spent at this level to support the actual product sellers. Don’t imitate those types of ads or marketing approaches. Brand/image marketing and advertising is a costly approach and is all wrong for small businesses.

The mistake people make is assuming that since big companies are spending billions on junky institutional ads, they reason small businesses should too. Wrong! It doesn’t work. Watch the free business marketing video to find out exactly why.

I can only imagine the backlash of complaints ad agents are going to send my way. They hate my brutal honesty.

I don’t care.

What matters most to me is seeing companies grow — without the B.S. from misguided and sometimes deliberately dishonest ad agents.
